Promising to be the largest Dota 2 tournament in Australia, the Melbourne Dota 2 Pro Series is set to take the local scene by storm.

Boasting a tasty $50,000 prize pool, the tournament will be sequenced across a series of online qualifiers and group stages held to determine the best teams from South-East Asia, China and Oceania.

This culminates in a blockbuster two-day event at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre, where eight teams will be flown in to battle it out for ultimate glory.

The Melbourne Dota 2 Pro Series is being run by Convictus Esports Group, a Melbourne based esports events startup that “aspires to develop Australian esports through hosting large scale tournaments and community events”.

Convictus was founded by a team with deep experience in event management, including the ZEN Gaming Lounge in Melbourne, Evolution Events and Australian Dota 2 veteran Blackshatan.

They’ve told Tribefire that the Pro Series event at Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre will hold no punches, with “thrilling production” and “electrifying experiences”; accompanied by activities such as a cosplay competition, on-site gaming and an esports market place.

Sean Ge from Convictus says, “Given the surge in Esport in Australia in the recent years, we believed that there was a gap in the market for a large scale Dota 2 tournament.”
